World Wrestling Entertainment may soon be unable to afford top luchadores like Penta and Rey Mysterio after Mexico announced it has levied a 25 percent tariff on American imports of the masked wrestlers.
The so-called Lucha Tax is Mexico’s retaliation for tariffs imposed on Mexico this week by WWE Hall of Famer and United States “President” Donald Trump.
“America can get by with El Toro and Sin Cara,” Trump told one source who, for the sake of anonymity, asked to be identified only as Linda M.
North of the border, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Rougeau announced that Canada would impose its own set of tariffs on American imports from the country, including Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, anyone remotely related to the Hart Family, and any variation of the Canadian Destroyer.
WWE executive Paul Levesque-Helmsley-McMahon-Ryzing believes the tariffs will not affect the company’s ability to sign Mexican or Canadian talent: “We’ll just charge more for tickets and merch,” he said unknowingly into a hot mic. “It’ll all even out.”
